pay your way
Our Room & Board structure allows residents to pay in increments that work best for them, whether that be all-at-once or in multiple payments throughout the semester. Residents are encouraged to divide their out-of-pocket balance into manageable monthly payments rather than waiting until the payment deadline.
For details about summer housing payments, please visit the Summer Housing website.
Our Student Account Specialist can help you understand the ins and outs of housing charges if you need help calculating the out-of-pocket amount or have questions about making a payment.
Email Danielle Rankin or make an appointment through Warrior Connect for more information.
Understanding Charges & Payments
Room & Board charges consist of room rent ("Room"), meal plan ("Board"), Activities fee, a non-refundable application fee, and a payment plan installment fee. When charges have been posted, students will receive an email with a breakdown of charges and information about making a payment. If they listed a FERPA Designee (such a Parent or Guardian) in their housing application for email notifications, the FERPA designee will also receive the message.
- Room Rent: Determined by Room Assignment/Unit Type
- Meal Plan: Determined by Meal Plan Selection
- Activities Fee: $75 housing activities fee
- Application Fee: Non-refundable $40 application fee
- Payment Plan Installment Fee: $25 per semester, waived if paid in full by contracted move-in day
Failure to pay Housing charges may result in a hold on your MyStanState student account.
Your charges are split between two semesters and posted to your MyStanState Student Account. All accounts must be paid in full by the final balance deadline. Reference the table below for details on when charges are posted.
| Semester | Date Posted to Account | Final Balance Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2025* | July 20 | November 15 |
| Spring 2026 | December 20 | April 15 |
*For applications completed after the fee period begins, Room & Board Charges will be posted 5-7 days after receiving a room assignment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have additional questions that aren't listed below? Contact the Housing Office at housing@csustan.edu or (209) 667-3675 for more information.
No, you do not need to set up a payment plan. You have the flexibility to pay all-at-once or in increments that work for you. Your full balance must be paid by the Final Balance Deadline listed above.
If your financial aid is delayed, you will need to make a $500 good-faith payment before the contracted move-in day. Once aid is disbursed, this amount will either be refunded by the University or applied to your outstanding balance.
Payments can be made via debit/credit card, cash, or check.
- E-check or Credit Card via MyStanState: to make a payment, simply log into your Student Account and pay online.
- Physical Check: handed to the Front Desk or dropped in the dropbox next to the Community Center mailboxes. Physical checks should be made out to "CSUS Housing" and include the student's name (if not already on the check) and student ID number in the memo.
- Cash via Cashier's Office in MSR
If you have any questions about how to make a payment, please contact the Housing Office.
Yes. If your financial aid is delayed, you will need to make a $500 good-faith payment before the contracted move-in day. Once aid is disbursed, this amount will either be refunded by the University or applied to your outstanding balance.
Financial aid is disbursed approximately 10 days before the start of each semester. Once accepted, financial aid awards will appear under the "Pending Aid" section of your student account.
Aid is first applied to tuition and university fees (excluding New Student Orientation fees), then to Room & Board charges. When viewing your MyStanState Account, the "My Account Balance" panel shows your remaining balance after pending aid—this is your out-of-pocket amount.

Housing charges are posted to the MyStanState Student Portal. When charges have been posted, students will receive an email with a breakdown of charges and information about making a payment. If they listed a FERPA Designee (such a Parent or Guardian) in their housing application for email notifications, the FERPA designee will also receive the message.
Yes. If you would like someone else (e.g. parent or guardian) to receive payment and balance reminder emails, too, you must add them as a FERPA Contact inside your housing application and check the Financial Emails Opt-In checkbox. This can be found on the "Room & Board Charges" page of the application and can be updated anytime.
It is strongly recommended that students pay their balance in full by their contracted Move-In Day. Paying in full by this date will waive the installment fee.
A payment installment fee is a one-time charge applied when a student carries a balance past the contracted Move-In Day.
If you choose not to pay the full balance by the contracted Move-In Day, you are assuming the right to make monthly payments and you’ll be charged a $25 installment fee. This fee will appear on your Student Portal on the first day of the month following your contracted move-in date.
Keep in mind, Academic Year contracts have installment fees for each semester: $25 for fall and $25 for spring.
