Understanding Charges & Payments

Check your Stan State email for a notification that a payment is due. If you opted-in a FERPA Designee for email notifications, they'll also receive the message. Charges will post on the MyStanState student portal shortly after payment notifications are sent out.

Your balance due is calculated based on the following:

  • Room Type
  • Meal Plan Selection
  • Payment Plan Installment Fee (first payment of each semester; waived if paid in full)
  • Application & Activities Fee (first payment only)
  • Financial Aid (if applicable)

Payments are due the 1st of each month and are considered late if not received by the 10th of the month. Failure to make payments on time may result in a hold on Stan State records and services.

How to Make a Housing Payment

Payments can be made via debit/credit card, cash, or check.

  • E-check or Credit Card via MyStanState: to make a payment, simply log into your Student Account and pay online.
  • Physical Check: handed to the Front Desk or dropped in the dropbox next to the Community Center mailboxes. Physical checks should be made out to "CSUS Housing" and include the student's name (if not already on the check) and student ID number in the memo.
  • Cash via Cashier's Office in MSR

Students that would like to make a payment prior to charges being posted must:

  • Login to MyStanState
  • Select the green “Make a Payment” button
  • Submit a payment in the payment portal using the “Housing Payment for Future Charges” selection

If you have any questions about how to make a payment, please contact the Housing Office.

Housing charges are posted to the MyStanState Student Portal. You’ll also receive an email with a full breakdown of your charges before moving in, and throughout the semester.

Yes. If you would like someone else (e.g. parent or guardian) to receive payment and balance reminder emails, too, you must add them as a FERPA Contact inside your housing application and check the Financial Emails Opt-In checkbox. This can be found on the "Payment Plans" page of the application.

Yes, you can pay the full balance at any time. If it’s paid in full by the contracted Move-In Day, the installment fee will be waived.

Think of an installment fee like a service fee for a credit card charge. If you choose not to pay the full balance by the contracted Move-In Day for that semester (August 19 for fall; January 24 for spring) and begin a payment plan, you’ll be charged a $25 installment fee. This fee will appear on your Student Portal a few days after the semester starts.

Keep in mind, Academic Year contracts have installment fees for each semester: $25 for fall and $25 for spring.

Financial Aid will post to your student account 10 days before spring classes start. If you receive Aid, any remaining funds after tuition and fees will be automatically applied to your housing charges.

If you think your Financial Aid award is going to be delayed, please reach out to our Student Accounts Specialist.
