Returning residents and upper division students who complete their application by April 10, 2023 will receive access to participate in Self-Selection Week in late April. This will allow you to select the exact unit and bedroom that you wish to live in next year.
- Applicants who complete their application after Self-Selection Week has occurred or who choose not to participate in Self-Selection Week will be manually placed by housing staff.
Incoming first year students are ineligible for Self-Selection and will also be placed.
Room Placement begins in late April and occurs in three rounds through August
- Placement I: Begins late April through May 24, for applications completed before March 31.
- Placement II: Begins June 1 through July 14, for applications completed April 1 - May 31.
- Placement III: Begins July 17, for applications completed June 1 or beyond.
Once you have been placed, you will receive a confirmation email with your booking as well as your roommate information.
Choosing Your Roommates
All residents can search for and select roommates through the Roommate Group feature of the application. This feature will be available via the housing application beginning in early April.
In order to create a Roommate Group in the Housing Portal:
- All roommates must have complete housing applications
- All roommates must have the same #1 Room Preference
If you do not create a roommate group, you will be placed with roommates based on your preferred room type and resident profile.
Please note: if you are participating in Self-Selection Week and cannot find a space to accommodate you and your roommate group (e.g. there are no available units with four open spaces to fit your group of four), you should still place yourselves into a unit. This may require you to split up your group, where you live next to each other instead of in the same unit. Room changes following Self-Select Week and Room Placement are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.
First year residents are placed into rooms based on their preferred Room Type and Community preferences selected in the housing application.

*Double Deluxe units have a fourth room with study desks and additional storage space.
Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students are able to select the room and unit they want to live in during Room Selection. Room Selection takes place in May; students who miss Room Selection are manually placed by Housing staff based on their preferred Room Type and Community preferences selected in the housing application.
