LockDown Browser

The Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) is a special web browser for taking exams that prevents students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during the assessment. When the LDB is enabled for a quiz, students will be required to download and use LDB to take the quiz or exam.

Student

When students land on the quiz page of a RLDB-enabled quiz, they will be prompted to download RLDB. Students then open RLDB and will be returned to Canvas from with the RLDB.  Students will not be able to start the quiz until they are accessing the quiz page from the RLDB.

Students can download the RLDB for their computer or the iPad app. Chromebooks are supported via the Chrome web store.  This app is not currently available for Android devices.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is an additional feature of the Lockdown Browser experience that requires students to turn on their webcam during an exam.

Beginning in Fall 2024, Monitor is a paid add-on. Students must purchase a 12-month license from Respondus ($15) in order to complete exams where Monitor has been enabled.  Payment is made the first time an exam requires the use of Respondus Monitor. Credit card, debit card, and PayPal accepted. The license allows the student to take unlimited exams with Monitor during the 12-month period.
