Submit Panopto Videos for Audio Description Processing
Under the new standards of Title II of the ADA arriving in April, 2026, videos used in courses need to have audio descriptions for compliance. This is in addition to required on-screen captions or transcript. Thanks to a pilot sponsored by the Chancellor's Office, our campus has access to a product that will process videos and create the audio description files.
In this pilot, instructors are invited to provide a list of Panopto URLs currently being used in courses or which will be used in upcoming courses (through Fall 2026).
OAT will then download the videos from Panopto, process them, and then insert the audio description content back into the Panopto session. The videos will never be offline for viewing.
The pilot will close on April 25, but the submission form will remain open to receive additional video URLs while the university figures out next steps.
Acquire Videos
There are three ways to locate videos to include in the processing.
From Canvas
- Step 1: Access the video from within Canvas and open it fully in Panopto
- Step 2: Copy the video URL in your browser's address bar (it's a very long string of text)
- Step 3: Paste the URL into the form. You can paste multiple URLs, one per line
From Panopto
- Step 1: Login to Panopto
- Step 2: Find and open a video in your personal Panopto library or in a Canvas course folder within Panopto
- Step 3: Paste the URL into the form. You can paste multiple URLs, one per line
From YouTube
- Step 1: Open the video in YouTube
- Step 2: Copy the video URL
- Step 3: Paste the URL into the form. You can paste multiple URLs, one per line
