The California Commission on Teacher Credentials (CCTC) requires that all students applying for an initial teaching credential demonstrate that they have “infant, child, and adult CPR certification which meets the criteria of the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.” The certificate must be a full 2-year certificate; provisional 1-year certificates will not be accepted.

Students who already have CPR certification need to provide a copy of the document, via email or in person, to Credential Services in DBH 303.

Students who do not currently have CPR certification will need to complete it prior to applying for their credential.  We suggest that you contact the American Heart Association or American Red Cross for available sessions.  The links to these organizations are provided below:

ANNOUNCEMENT:  The Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) is being retired and will no longer be offered after June 30, 2025. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has adopted a transition plan for the RICA Written Examination and RICA Video Performance Assessment pursuant to the Commission's work to implement Senate Bill 488 (Chap. 678, Stats. 2021), commonly referred to as SB 488.

The CTEL Examination is composed of three separate subtests. The subtests are criterion referenced. A criterion-referenced test is designed to measure an examinee's knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard rather than in relation to the performance of other examinees. The purpose of this examination is to help identify candidates for certification who have demonstrated the level of knowledge and skills required to effectively teach English learners.

The objective of the Stan State Math and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) is to increase the total number of Mathematics and Science students enrolling in undergraduate or post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs. MSTI advisors help guide future teachers through the credential program application process, provide financial aid information and credential examination preparation resources. Additionally, MSTI supports students in developing the skills necessary to succeed educationally and professionally.
