Emergency Management coordinates and facilitates campus emergency planning, training, response, and recovery to minimize the impact of emergencies on the campus community, facilities, and environment. This includes implementing the All-Hazards Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and, when necessary, activating the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to efficiently manage resources, personnel, and information for an effective response.

Resources

Campus Building Evacuation Marshals and Monitors are volunteer employees who play a vital role in campus emergency preparedness and response. Their primary goal is to ensure the safe, efficient, and orderly evacuation of building occupants while providing critical information to emergency personnel.

Through training and coordination, Marshals and Monitors help minimize confusion, direct individuals to designated evacuation routes, and report essential information—such as individuals needing assistance or hazardous conditions—to first responders. Their presence enhances overall campus safety by promoting preparedness, improving response times, and ensuring that emergency procedures are effectively carried out.

The desired outcome of their role is a well-organized evacuation process where all individuals, including those with disabilities or other access and functional needs, can evacuate safely. By relaying real-time information to emergency personnel, they support timely decision-making and resource allocation, ultimately reducing risk and ensuring the safety of the campus community.

If Building Marshals and Monitors are not available to assist in an evacuation, individuals must take personal responsibility for their own safety by knowing evacuation routes, following posted procedures, and assisting others when possible. Familiarizing yourself with emergency exits and response protocols in advance can help ensure a safe and efficient evacuation.
