Canvas course shells are generated automatically by PeopleSoft. While exact dates can vary, course shell creation follow this general schedule:

  • Summer term – early January
  • Fall term – early April
  • Winter term – late September
  • Spring term – early October

Canvas has a 2-gigabyte storage limit for each course. Under normal circumstances, files such as .docx, .pdfs, and .xls do not go over the 2 GB limit. However, videos take up quite a lot of storage space. This is not to say you cannot use videos in your courses. Instead, we recommend that you use Panopto to store your videos as Panopto integrates seamlessly with Canvas and offers a better viewing experience for students. For more information regarding Panopto visit the Panopto + Canvas web page!

Canvas supports a variety of external tools to help create your course. Some of the tools that can be integrated with Canvas include: ZoomPanoptoTurnitinVoiceThread, McGraw-Hill Connect, Google Drive, Office 365, and YouTube. If you have any questions regarding Canvas and external tools, feel free to reach out at oat@csustan.edu!

Yes, we have designated Faculty Ambassadors to Canvas. These FACs are from a variety of departments from all colleges. View a list of all our FACs.

Secondly, OAT provides a number of Accessibility Services to support making your course materials more accessible. While it easy to confuse our two departments, we in fact handle two different spaces at Stanislaus State. OIT is the Office of Information Technology while OAT is the Office of Academic Technology. OIT is who you would contact for things like computer or network troubleshooting, logging in to the Stan State Portal, or for help with email and password. Here is their email: TechSupport@csustan.edu.
