What is the BQSAT?
The BQSAT is a 30-question multiple-choice test designed to assess business quantitative skills necessary for successful completion of the B.S. in Business Administration. A passing grade on this test enables a student to enroll in OM 3020: Management Science.
What will the BQSAT cover?
The BQSAT will cover a variety of quantitative topics such as:
- Interpreting ratios
- Converting fractions to decimals
- Converting decimals to fractions
- Recognizing common percentages (50% = ½; 25% = ¼, etc.)
- Ordering numbers less than zero by size [recognizing place value]
- Dividing fractions
- Plotting and identifying points on a graph
- Graphing lines
- Setting up algebraic equations to solve business problems
- Computing interest on a loan
- Solving for two unknowns using substitution
- Identifying and properly using relevant information to solve a brief quantitative business problems.
Who needs to take the BQSAT?
All students who are enrolling in OM 3020: Management Science and have a catalog year of 2013 or later.

How is the test administered?
The BQSAT will be administered as an in-person paper test with a scantron answer sheet at a designated location at CSU, Stanislaus – Turlock Campus. (Tests may be offered at the Stockton campus and will be clearly marked on the registration page.) When will the test be given?
The BQSAT will be administered four (4) times during an academic year and at the New Student Orientations (NSO) scheduled in winter and summer terms. Dates and times will vary due to the academic calendar. Click here for upcoming test dates.
How can I take the test?
Students will be able to register for a test date through the CBA website.
Is there a fee for the test?
No. There is no fee for the test, and no penalty if a student does not attend the test date in which the student registered.
What do I need to bring to the test?
Students will need to bring a #2 pencil. No calculators will be allowed during testing time. Scantrons and scratch paper will be provided by the College.
How will I be notified of my BQSAT results?
Students will receive an email from a specified CBA faculty or staff stating their results within ten (10) business days of testing date.
What will happen if I pass the BQSAT?
You are now able to enroll in OM 3020, as long as the other prerequisites for the course have been met.
What will happen if I do not pass the BQSAT?
You will have the opportunity to take the BQSAT a second time. Please keep in mind you must either pass the BQSAT, complete ALEKS Essential Math Skills for Business, or complete BUS 0103: Elementary Business Quantitative Analysis before enrolling in OM 3020.
What is ALEKS?
ALEKS Essential Math Skills for Business is an online, self-paced program that can be taken to meet the BUS 103 prerequisite.
There will be an out-of-pocket cost for the course. It will not be covered under financial aid. Students can only purchase the code once.
Students will need to purchase a course code online and enroll with the instructor code. The instructor code will allow the Accreditation Analyst, who is the instructor of the course, to receive notification of progress and completion.
Students will need to complete the course by receiving a 100% on the pie chart of topics to receive credit. Students will have 18-weeks to complete the course once the code is used. Upon completion, the student will receive an email notifying the student that the prerequisite has been met.
What is BUS 0103?
BUS 0103: Elementary Business Quantitative Analysis is a two (2) unit course scheduled during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students can enroll in the course during the regular registration times each semester.
This course meets one of the prerequisites for students to enroll in OM 3020: Management Science.
A student must receive a passing score or "credit" to complete the course. A student may take this course multiple times until he or she passes the course.
Can I register for OM 3020 without the prerequisite?
Yes, but if you have not completed the BQSAT, ALEKS or BUS 0103 prerequisite by the first day of class, the OM professor will administratively withdraw you from the course.
