You can check out course equivalents for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) here If you haven’t done so already, be sure to send your AP scores to Stanislaus State. Most AP exams require a score of 3 or higher to earn college credit.

The University uses multiple factors to determine what is called your Math Placement Category (Categories I/II are GE math; Categories III/IV are Supported GE math). If you don’t know your Math Placement category you can contact Enrollment Services to get it. A series of flowcharts and assessments to help you figure out which math class is best for you is available. Your major may require or recommend a particular math class—you can find that information in the Course Catalog on the Academic Programs page (select your major or minor from the list to check requirements). Remember to check the equivalencies for any AP/IB tests you’ve taken (see above)—you may have already satisfied some/all of your math requirements.

The University uses multiple factors to determine what is called your English Placement Category (Categories I/II are GE English; Categories III/IV are Supported GE English). As a member of the University Honors Program, unless you have a Category IV ranking, you’ll take ENGL 1005: Honors Composition. If that isn’t an option on the Direct Self-Placement questionnaire, please select ENGL 1001 and let Honors Director Ellen Bell (eebell@csustan.edu) know so she can help you switch to ENGL 1005 before the fall semester starts. Remember to check the equivalencies for any AP/IB tests you’ve taken (see above)—you may have already satisfied your English requirement. If you have AP credit for English, please take PHIL 2005: Honors Critical Thinking (GE Area A3) in the fall.

If you don’t need the information to plan summer or fall classes, you can wait until your transfer credit posts to your myCSUSTAN Degree Progress page. Be sure to contact your community college and request that your transcript be sent to Stan State. You can look up articulation agreements between community colleges and Stan State on the Assist webpage: https://assist.org/ For specific course articulations, select your community college in first box, select CSU Stanislaus in the second box, and click “View Agreements.” For a list of all transferable courses, select your community college in the first box, leave the second box blank, select CSU Transferable Courses in the 3rd box that appears, and click “View Transferability Lists.” Navigate to the bottom of the page and select “All Courses” for a full list or select individual departments. The GE Area (A1, A2, A3, etc.) the course meets is often included in the description.

Go to the class schedule and find the class subject that you are looking for. Once you are there, find the actual course you will be taking and click on the book icon to the right-hand side. That will show you what books/materials are required for you to have.  From there you can obtain the ISBN and purchase (or sometimes rent) from whatever source you prefer.
