The Fab Lab is equipped with a multitude of 3D scanners, both desktop and handheld. Each accomplish the same function; when provided with a real-world object that the user wants to make a 3D model of, the scanner is used to encircle the object, taking a series of pictures that are composited to produce a 3D model replica. Different scanners accomplish this task in different ways, often incorporating lidar, and using a shifting pattern of light columns to define the shape of the object based on the pattern’s distortion.

Slicing is the term for preparing an object to 3D print and it is the core software for most of the 3D printing in the Fab Lab.

Stanislaus State recognizes that student success occurs when our students are engaged and supported in their quest for knowledge and understanding. Student success is realized when our students are equipped and empowered to positively transform their lives, to inform the practice of their chosen profession, and to exercise civic rights and responsibilities to transform their communities.

At Stanislaus State,

Charge:

Ensure GREAT efforts to positively impact graduation rates and achievement gaps while maintaining student access to an engaging, high-quality education are inclusive of Stockton students, faculty, staff, programs, departments, and other community stakeholders.

These GREAT efforts include:

Charge:

Explore and identify existing reporting and tracking of student success programs and best practices. Investigate ways that student survey data can be integrated into the evaluation of student success practices. Form recommendations based on findings.

Charge:

Identify strategies, beyond traditional financial aid, to address student financial need, increase financial stability, and help ensure uninterrupted progress toward successful degree completion, with special emphasis on examining and revising business practices that may disproportionately present barriers to low-income students. Report progress regularly to the GREAT Steering Committee.
