The Faculty Development Committee, in collaboration with the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Fellows, invites you to join us for Instructional Institute Day as we prepare for the spring semester. This day of workshops and conversations will highlight innovative strategies and practical tools to support your teaching. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics including active learning, accessibility and Canvas applications, alternative grading approaches, integrating AI in the classroom, and more.

The Stanislaus State AI Task Force serves as a guide to campus-wide exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the 2025–26 academic year. The task force is charged with identifying how the University can responsibly and ethically leverage AI in ways that align with existing institutional policies, while also developing actionable guidelines for implementation and ongoing use.

Understanding Grades vs. Grading vs. Grade Book Structure

In Canvas, student scores are handled in a few different places, depending the task at hand. On the Assignments page of the course, instructors can create assignments as well as manage all of the other graded activities to determine the structure of the course final grade.  Grading, which is the assigning of points to student submissions, is most often handled in the Speedgrader tool that is available from within each activity.

The Faculty Development Committee, in collaboration with the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Fellows, invites you to participate in a Syllabus Writing Retreat. This dedicated time and space will allow you to focus on preparing or revising your spring syllabi in a supportive environment. Bring your ideas, drafts, and questions, and take advantage of resources and collegial feedback to help you create syllabi that are clear, engaging, and aligned with your teaching goals.
