Purpose

The Service Learning Steering Committee's purpose is to advocate and champion the development of service learning at Stanislaus State. 

Charge & Responsibilities

The Service Learning Steering Committee provides advocacy and leadership for the development of service learning and infrastructure development at Stanislaus State. The steering committee is responsible for addressing issues of academic quality, policy development, faculty development, fiscal support, and assessment of student learning for service learning courses. 

Specific responsibilities include the following: 

  • Provide counsel and recommendations to the Office of Service Learning regarding the development and implementation of service learning at Stanislaus State. 

  • In consultation with other governance bodies, propose academic policy, as necessary, in support of service learning. 

  • Review strategic plans, timelines, fiscal proposals, and other documents for enhancing the quality of service learning. 

  • Establish criteria for service learning courses; review and recommend service learning courses in accordance with these criteria. 

  • Review and recommend funding for service learning curriculum grants and other opportunities for curricular development. 

  • Provide guidance for the development and implementation of assessment plans related to the effectiveness of service learning. 

  • Review reports and other documents related to service learning (e.g., the CSU Chancellor's Office and extramural funding agencies) 

  • Provide leadership and participate in faculty development activities for service learning. 

Membership

The Service Learning Steering Committee shall be composed of eight voting members who have instituted service learning into their curricula and with representation from each college, where possible. The chair of the steering committee shall be the faculty director for service learning. Members serve a three-year term, renewable if desired, after consultation with the Committee on Committees for identification of possible membership.
