Stanislaus State’s Center for Excellence in Graduate Education (CEGE) is observing Graduate Education Week March 22-26 by offering 20 virtual workshops covering a range of topics, from applying to a graduate program to career goals and resume building after the hooding ceremony. 

Students can learn about developing and cultivating leadership skills by participating in the Dr. Marvalene Hughes Student Leadership Conference, a free virtual event scheduled for Friday, March 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. 

Before a police officer’s knee took the life of George Floyd last May and set off nationwide protests and demands for change, Stanislaus State Associate Professor of Sociology Dana Nakano was working to establish a book club focused on social justice. 

Instead of learning to bake sourdough bread or assembling jigsaw puzzles during the past year, Julia Sankey made her dream came true. 

The Stanislaus State professor of paleobiology and geology used the enforced time away from campus to realize her long-held desire for a community garden and led the effort to create the Turlock Community Gardens. 

Even though COVID-19 restrictions cancelled last October’s Tastes of the Valley fundraising collaboration between Stanislaus State’s agriculture program and the Stanislaus Friends of the Fair Foundation, current and future students are still reaping the benefits of that partnership.

The foundation sought donations through a letter-writing campaign and rather than split the profits as is usually done, it donated the entire $18,950 raised to scholarships for students in Stan State’s agriculture program. 

The Stanislaus State President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion (PCDI) is accepting proposals for projects aimed at ensuring inclusivity, equity, diversity and social justice on campus.

Isaac McCrimon came to Stanislaus State because it was the only University that accepted his identical twin, Isaiah. 

Remote learning induced by COVID-19 proved challenging and frustrating for many if not most educators and students across the country. For Helen Aleksani, it provided a revelation. Aleksani, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Stan State, has found value in recording her classes, and says she’ll keep doing so after face-to-face classes resume.
