Official University Accounts

Official University accounts represent Stanislaus State departments, programs, offices and administrative units. These accounts communicate on behalf of the institution and follow University brand and accessibility standards.

They are coordinated by full-time employees, registered with Strategic Communications & Marketing (MarCom) and maintained with ongoing oversight and support.

Affinity Group & Student Organization Accounts

Affinity groups, student organizations and other recognized groups may maintain a social media presence to support networking, discussion or community building. These accounts do not represent official University positions or statements.

Groups may reference the University using language such as “at Stan State” but should not appear to be official University administrative channels. They may also reference Stanislaus State in their bio or About section to clarify their connection to the University without implying official status.

These accounts should:

  • Avoid using official University logos or marks
  • Include a brief disclaimer noting they do not speak for the University
  • Follow Stanislaus State branding, naming and conduct expectations appropriate to their affiliation
  • Register their social media presence for support and guidance

Required Disclaimer

To help clarify that affinity group and student organization accounts do not speak on behalf of the University, please include a short disclaimer in your bio or About section.

Examples:

  • Views expressed belong to this organization and do not represent official statements of Stanislaus State.
  • Opinions posted in this group reflect the account owner’s and not the University.

Naming Your Account

To ensure consistency in how the University is referenced across all platforms, please review the University Name guidelines on the Stan State Writing Style Guide — please do not use CSUStan, CSU Stanislaus or CSUS.

For social media display names, list your department or program first followed by “at Stan State” or “at Stanislaus State,” or use a separator like a dash (-) or vertical line (|). This helps your audience recognize your unit clearly while still showing your connection to the University.

This approach strengthens individual department and program identity while preventing confusion with the main University accounts and ensuring all channels remain clearly connected to Stan State.

For usernames and handles, use a format that begins with Stan State to support consistency across University accounts.

For official accounts, display name examples:

  • Theatre Department at Stan State
  • Nursing at Stanislaus State
  • Biological Sciences | Stan State
  • Music Department | Stan State

For affinity groups or recognized student organizations:

  • History Club at Stan State
  • CLSFA at Stan State

For official accounts, handles/username examples:

  • @StanStateTheatre
  • @StanStateNursing
  • @StanStateBio
  • @StanStateMusic

For affinity groups or recognized student organizations:

  • @HistoryClub_StanState
  • @CLSFA_StanState

Profile Images & Visual Identity

  • Use images that represent your area with clarity and visual impact.
  • Avoid placing text inside profile photos.
  • Only central MarCom-managed accounts may use the University shield logo as a profile image.
  • Affinity groups and student organizations should not use official University logos; instead, use unique imagery inspired by University colors and typography.

Refer to the University’s Visual Identity guidelines for additional direction.
