The courses listed here include critical educational topics that are important to understand educational institutions from different angles. These classes will provide students with the conceptual and theoretical foundations to understand how to navigate, design, and innovate practices within educational institutions. Students formalize their understanding around key themes such as student development, educational policy, curriculum, school reform, teaching, learning, leadership, and community partnerships. These classes provide the foundation to engage in critical inquiry and school improvement .

Research Block

The courses listed here prepare students to develop research skills that will allow them to gather and analyze data about student performance, equity, and teaching effectiveness as part of their professional practice. Through these classes, students will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate research projects that are necessary to examine whether or not an educational institution is fulfilling its mission. These blocks of classes are critical to help students become critical consumers of research and skillful practitioners who can engage in qualitative or qualitative assessment. Additionally, these classes will provide students with the foundational knowledge to create the methodological design for their dissertation work.

Professional Development

The courses listed here aim to create a space for a cycle of reflection in action. Our students are educational practitioners that require opportunities to engage in collaborative dialogue to discuss current issues that they experience in their work context. The Proseminars on Contemporary Issues for Educational leaders are led by field experts who will bring real case studies to discuss strategies to navigate complex scenarios and identify effective mechanisms to lead groups and institutions. These classes are an opportunity to implement what has been learned in previous courses.

Professional Development: 8 Units

    • Media and organizational communication
    • Advocacy and conflict resolution
    • Construction of equity narratives using institutional data

Dissertation Block

Students enroll in these research seminars to focus on the design and implementation of their dissertation work. These classes occur parallel to the rest of the courses and are based on the academic mentoring and professional advice of the dissertation chair. Students meet and work with their chair regularly to guarantee the effective progression of their individual research projects and the writing of their dissertation.
