Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics software that allows users to create and edit illustrations, logos, and other graphics. Users can draw shapes, lines, and curves, and use various tools to adjust colors, gradients, and textures. Adobe Illustrator's vector-based format allows for high-quality scaling without loss of resolution. These files are highly conducive to many forms of production in the Fab Lab, with tools like the laser cutters, embroidery machine, and vinyl cutter being able to accurately and smoothly trace the paths of the vector image file in a way that regular JPEG or other images can't be.
Adobe Illustrator or other free software, such as Inkscape, can be used for output on the following equipment:
- Printing for buttons, posters and sublimation transfer
- Laser cutters
- Vinyl cutter
- CNC embroidery
- Websites other digital viewing
