Proposed Revised Advising Policy

Procedure for advisor selection or assignment:

New majors can seek advising from any full-time members of the Economics faculty, but by default are asked to meet with the Director of Economics, or sometimes the Department Chair, or another faculty member covering a New Student Orientation.

Students requesting a change of major to Economics are directed to the online Declaration of Change of Degree Objective form available at Enrollment Services - Forms. They are also asked if they have a preference for a faculty member or specific area of study. If they have no preference they will be advised by the Director of Economics.

Schedule for advising meetings with departmental advisors:

Scheduled advising appointments are made by students directly with the faculty member. During some peak times such as the week(s) before class registration some faculty members such as the Director of Economics may set up blocks of time in which students can book online appointments through Warrior Connect as well as links to online office hours for drop-ins. For unscheduled advising meetings, all full-time members of the Economics faculty will advise any student as the faculty member is available.

Frequency of required advising meetings:

Each semester Enrollment Services places an advising hold on each Economics major’s record. The hold can be removed by the faculty during the advising appointment.

Plan for training and supervising peer advisors:

There is no formal peer advising in the Economics Department.
