Jennifer Kuhns is first and foremost an award-winning author of children’s books. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in 2008. She “describes” herself as being disabled and in a wheelchair. She does not “define” herself as such, noting that there is a difference.

Her disability is something called Cerebral Palsy. She shares, “I have lived the reality of being stereotyped as being less than whole, as well as being prejudged and pitied.

I have had my head patted and been told that I am an inspiration, categorized as a waste of time, space and energy, and so forth, a perception and attitude I believe very much needs to change.”    She started writing children’s books to solve what she precieved as a problem early on, not only about herself, but also in her search for characters like herself in books. There were virtually no books with disabled charaters, or if she found one at all, the disabled character had absolutly no redeeming or positive qualities.
