Curriculum Proposal Deadlines

Note: These deadlines are for Department Chairs to submit proposals to their College Curriculum Committees.

The following deadlines have been established for submitting curricular revisions. The dates were established with sensitivity to the time pressures placed on chairs of departments and curriculum committees while also being responsive to the publication deadlines necessary for the Schedule of Classes, the academic catalog, and academic advising.

Curriculum submitted after the below deadlines may not be considered for the 2026-27 catalog and schedule of classes. Proposals must be fully approved for catalog and schedule inclusion.  Selected Topics course proposals must be submitted to college curriculum committees at least one month PRIOR to the posting of the specific Schedule of Classes.

^This means the DEPARTMENT CHAIR must approve the proposals in Curriculum by end of business on the stated deadline.

*Technical Review is the first approval step in Curriculum. The Curriculum Coordinator will review that the proposal for accuracy and policy alignment.

New and Modify Course Proposals NOT Requiring GE Subcommittee or University Writing Committee Review

Monday, November 24, 2025

Approval by the Department Chair requires completion of the following preliminary steps with recommended deadlines: 

October 21: Technical Review

November 7: Department Curriculum Committee Approval

Program Revisions NOT Requiring UEPC or GC Review

Monday, February 23, 2026

Approval by the Department Chair requires completion of the following preliminary steps with recommended deadlines: 

January 29: Technical Review

February 6: Department Curriculum Committee

Selected and Special Topics Proposals One month prior to schedule publication. Dates vary term-to-term. New topics may be proposed prior to the next term's schedule publication. All new topics must be submitted in Curriculum CMS.

Additional Dates

2026-27 Academic Catalog Review

Please note that all  proposals need to be fully approved prior to catalog publication. Any proposals not approved by the publication date will roll over to the next catalog year. New programs will be added as pending approval, if approved by the Academic Senate prior to publication. To ensure inclusion in a given catalog year, all curriculum proposals must be fully approved by early April of the prior academic year.

To uphold student catalog rights, it’s essential that curriculum is fully approved and published by the appropriate catalog year. For additional information, visit the Academic Catalog Review and Publication webpage

Curriculum cannot be split across terms or added after the catalog is published.

Is the University-Wide Committee Required?

  • Yes, if the course seeking designation as a General Education, Writing Proficiency, Sociocultural Inquiry, Skills for Student Success, Life-long Learning or Liberal Studies Integrative Course; and/or,
  • Yes, if the course seeking revision is designated as General Education, Writing Proficiency, Sociocultural Inquiry, Skills for Student Success, Life-long Learning or Liberal Studies Integrative Course; and/or,
  • Yes, if program revisions indicated a program increase in units, effects on other programs, and/or increase in resources.
  • Yes, if new degree program, concentration, other sub-program, new course prefix, or as determined by the governance committees.

Course Fee Proposal Deadlines

Course Fee proposal forms must be submitted every year by the following dates:

  • For fees effective in the Summer/Fall: March 1
  • For fees effective in the Spring: August 1

​​Note: Allow six (6) weeks for the approval process for Course Fee Proposals.

Selected/Special Topics Deadlines

Selected/Special topics courses may be submitted to the college curriculum committee at least one month PRIOR to the posting of the specific Schedule of Classes. Example: The fall schedule is published April 25th, proposals for new topics must be submitted to the College Curriculum Committee by March 25th for inclusion in the schedule. Selected and Special topics may be proposed outside of the regular catalog year deadlines, only if adding a new topic to an existing course. To propose a new Selected/Special topics course, first submit a new course proposal and then submit a proposal to add the topic. See the Courses (New/Modifications) webpage for more information.
