Subcommittee Charge

The duties of the Graduation Assessment Writing Committee (GWAC) include:

Employ a Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) informed model to evaluate student writing across all academic departments and programs at or near graduation. Using rubrics designed or selected by departments, GWAC reviews student work in order to provide departments with a snapshot of their writers’ strengths and weaknesses. This work also includes formative feedback on rubric clarity and effectiveness, and, when consulted, support for departments interested in improving assignments or approaches to writing in the major.

GWAC feedback is intended to contribute directly to program review and planning, helping departments align disciplinary writing practices with campus-level expectations and external accreditation standards. The GWAC review cycle will parallel that of the UWC, which will enable departments that are up for APR to receive an evaluative response on instructor feedback/WP adherence from UWC while receiving feedback on student writing in the major from GWAC. At the end of the academic year, the committee will submit an annual report to the UEPC, which will comprise a summary of the committee’s work and recommendations for improvement.
