The following organizations provide opportunities for obtaining hours of community service.

VolunteerMatch has hundreds of virtual volunteering experiences in a variety of different areas. They have also created a COVID-19 hub specifically for coronavirus volunteer opportunities.

Points of Light Global Network organizes an annual Global Volunteer Month each April. They connect virtual volunteers with projects across 37 different countries around the world. You can find off-site projects that fit your skillset and schedule or find DIY projects that you can do from home.

The United Nations has created an online portal of virtual volunteering activities, many supporting women and youth.

The Crisis Text Line relies on volunteer crisis counselors who work from home. Trained crisis counselors answer texts from people in crisis through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.

Do you know more than one language? This one is for you! Translators without Borders uses volunteers to translate medical texts and crisis responses.

BookShare is an organization that makes print materials accessible to children and adults with disabilities. It relies on virtual volunteers to complete tasks such as scanning and proofreading, describing images, and providing support for BookShare teachers and families.

Table Wisdom connects adults and foreign-born students through weekly mentoring video chats. In light of COVID-19, it has launched a program that matches volunteers with someone from a different city who has been affected by social distancing. Participants will take part in 30-minute weekly video chats that allow for meaningful conversations.

Be My Eyes connects blind and visually impaired people to sighted people who can help them “see” when needed. The service allows visually impaired users to connect with sighted users via live video chat, so the sighted user can help the visually impaired user by describing what is being shown on the video. The video stream is one-way, but the audio stream is two-way.
