Two Stanislaus State Chartwells employees received recognition for their outstanding service in the month of October. Taylor Brown, student employee, and Laura Sagar, culinary associate, were named as National Star Associates of the Year for the West region by Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services.
The One Purpose campaign may have been shorter this year, four weeks instead of six, but volunteer efforts were unfazed by the change. During the volunteer fund drive, 142 campus and community members came together and donated their own time and energy to fundraising for students. The result of that determination was more than $230,000 for student scholarships.
Stanislaus State’s ongoing commitment to building and maintaining strong community partnerships again has been recognized at the national level, with the University being named to the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
Stanislaus State English Professor Brett Ashmun, whose outside-the-classroom approach to teaching is inspiring a new generation of students, is being honored as a Literary Hero by the Great Valley Bookfest. Ashmun’s teaching techniques were highlighted in a Stanislaus State feature.
