History Majors & Programs
The history program at Stanislaus State offers a deep exploration of the past, equipping you with the tools to understand how historical events have shaped the present and how they continue to influence the future. Whether you're fascinated by world events, politics, cultural diversity, ancestry, or the environment, studying history allows you to investigate and connect the dots between past and present while refining essential research and analytical skills.
In our classrooms, you’ll master techniques of research, writing and speaking to find, evaluate and interpret historical information. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills that help you understand the complexity of historical processes, the causes of conflict and the evolution of societies.
This program also offers practical opportunities for learning outside the classroom. Engage in independent research projects, gain hands-on experience in local historical organizations and work with faculty on real-world historical inquiries. Whether you're looking to continue your academic journey with graduate studies or enter the workforce, the skills you acquire—such as clear communication, problem-solving and research proficiency—are transferable to nearly every career path.
