Developing the Potential in Every Global Citizen

The College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is home to the recently launched California Global Education Project (CGEP). CGEP@StanState became official in July 2020.

Regional Director, Maureen McCorry, was born and raised in eastern Merced County and has been enriched with a global perspective that includes twenty years teaching History-Social Studies in diverse K-12 classrooms from Modesto to Silicon Valley. Under Maureen’s leadership, CGEP is focused on developing partnerships and providing high-quality professional learning opportunities to K-12 teachers – across all disciplines and grade levels.

In this unprecedented year, over one hundred pre-service and veteran teachers have been served through outreach and workshops to develop cultural literacy, global competence, and anti-racist book studies to begin to address the systemic inequities laid bare by the pandemic and the racial reckoning that has galvanized national and international movements.

History

The California Global Education Project, formerly the California International Studies Project (1985-2018), is one of nine California Subject Matter Projects administered by the University of California Office of the President. The CSMPs provide high-quality professional development for K-12 teachers throughout the state. Each project is represented by regional sites on the campuses of UC, California State University, and independent colleges and universities.

CGEP@StanState is one of four California Subject Matter Projects sponsored by Stanislaus State. We have been working in collaboration with our sister project, The Great Valley Writing Project since our inception.
