What is Psi Chi?

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, was founded in 1929 with a mission to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology. The Stan State Psi Chi Chapter was established in 1984 and continues to play an active role in the Department of Psychology. Psi Chi offers many opportunities for growth among its members. These opportunities include professional development workshops, research opportunities, volunteer experiences, and informational panels on psychology-related careers. Members of Psi Chi are committed to advancing their knowledge of psychology while building meaningful connections with likeminded individuals.

To qualify for Psi Chi you must:

  1. Be enrolled as a major or minor in psychology or a program that is related to psychology (e.g. Child Development)
  2. Have completed at least 3 semesters of full-time college coursework
  3. Have completed at least 9 units of psychology courses
  4. Have a minimum 3.4 GPA (overall and within psychology)

Our purpose is to promote scholarship in psychology and provide an atmosphere where students can network and expand their knowledge of the field.

The Stan State Chapter of Psi Chi offers:

  • Informational events-provide information about careers in psychology & applying to graduate programs
  • Social events-learn, have fun, connect, & network
  • Research opportunities-conduct faculty-mentored research & present at conferences
  • Volunteer opportunities-help in your community
  • Leadership opportunities-become a Psi Chi officer and help our chapter thrive

Some additional benefits of membership:

  • Lifetime membership, and the ability to include membership on your resumé
  • Online resources and Psi Chi’s magazine, provide guidance/tools about graduate school applications, careers, conducting research, promoting diversity, leadership, & more
  • Sixteen $3,000 scholarships are awarded annually for undergrad and graduate students
  • Publishing opportunities in Psi Chi’s peer-reviewed journal, which accept undergrad, graduate, and faculty research in all areas of psychology
  • $400,000 in annual awards and grants for student research, convention travel, chapter involvement, diversity, and more

Qualifications to Join Psi Chi:

  • Open to Psychology majors, minors and related fields
  • Completed at least 3 semesters of full-time college course work and 9 units of psychology courses.
  • A minimum 3.4 GPA is required
  • Apply to Psi Chi!
