President Joseph F. Sheley gave his annual address to the campus community at California State University, Stanislaus today, identifying the steps being taken to improve student success and outlining plans for the new year, from developing the University’s signature and identity to enhancing health and safety efforts on campus.

CSU Stanislaus has announced the appointment of Ron Rodriguez as Dean of Library Services, effective Aug. 1. Rodriguez replaces Annie Hor, who will return to the library faculty after serving for nearly five years as interim dean.

Rodriguez comes to CSU Stanislaus from Cal State Fullerton’s Pollak Library, where he worked for eight years as Access Services Unit Head and Coordinator of Library Development. He also has seven years of experience as Associate Dean of the Leatherby Libraries at Chapman University.

 

Volunteer Teams Express Excitement Leading Up to the Official Kickoff 
of the New Fundraising Initiative On Aug. 28

More than 300 volunteers, representing both campus and community leaders, will come together this month to officially launch One Purpose, the new fundraising initiative for CSU Stanislaus. The kickoff event for the campaign will take place on Aug. 28, which will provide orientation for volunteers and generate excitement for this important first year.

The CSU Stanislaus Division of University Advancement has announced the return of STAN Magazine, a biannual publication designed to spread the word about the University and its successes throughout the region. CSU Stanislaus last published a magazine in 2010.

The Fall 2014 issue of STAN Magazine was mailed last week to more than 36,000 homes and businesses throughout the region, and it can be viewed online here. The Spring 2015 issue is slated to print in February.

California State University, Stanislaus has earned a place in the 2015 edition of the Princeton Review’s “The Best 379 Colleges” guide, marking the ninth consecutive year the University has appeared on the prestigious list.

John and June Rogers have been longstanding partners with CSU Stanislaus, and this year they are lending their leadership to the launch of One Purpose as chairs for the six-week fund drive.

 

Local Entrepreneurs Matt and Maria Swanson Create Endowment to Support Student Success Through Scholarships and Motivate Future Contributions

​Local entrepreneurs Matt and Maria Swanson have made a $250,000 seed gift to establish the One Purpose endowment at California State University, Stanislaus. The endowment will support the One Purpose annual fund drive, a new effort aiming to raise $1 million for scholarships for high-achieving students during a six-week period in the fall.

Jerry Zeng is a third-year finance student with an infectious smile and — for a native of China making his first visit to the United States — a strong grasp of the English language. That smile was in abundance this week as Zeng discussed his observations of life in America.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “We always make everything so serious in our country. Having fun is important.”
