A dual interest in microbrewing and microbiology has brought praise and attention to a group of four Stan State students.

At the CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) meeting in Santa Clara held earlier this month, a study on the development of yeast strains for brewing presented by Stan State students Diego Lopez, Sabrina Williamson, Braulio Rodriguez and Max Perez-Mendez was judged the best of the conference by attendees.

Stanislaus State athletes continue to shine just as brightly in the classroom as on the field, with 32 Warriors earning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Fall All-Academic honors.

Stan State recorded the largest increase in the conference over last year’s totals, with a combined 16 more student-athletes named in 2016. The Warriors’ women’s soccer team led all conference fall sports with 16 athletes earning all-academic honors, while eight Stan State volleyball players also made the list.

Blair Ehrlich capped off her extraordinary Stanislaus State career with one of the highest achievement awards a student-athlete can receive as she was name to the list of the AVCA Division II All-Americans as an honorable mention.

 

Union Pacific Railroad to revise previous track maintenance

If you come to campus via Highway 99 we encourage you to use either the Fulkerth or Taylor road exits to access campus Dec. 12-15 to avoid the detour and delays due to the complete closure of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at Monte Vista Avenue. The roadway is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15. The closure may coincide with finals for some students, and drivers are encouraged to arrange their travel time and route accordingly.

A pending Federal Reserve rake hike, combined with new governmental measures relating to agriculture, will slow economic growth in the Central Valley through 2017 and possibly beyond. That outlook is according to the biannual Business Forecast Report produced by Gökçe Soydemir, the Foster Farms Endowed Professor of Business Economics at Stanislaus State.
