In 2015, the California State University (CSU) launched Graduation Initiative 2025 (GI 2025), its ambitious plan to increase graduation rates, eliminate equity gaps in degree completion and meet California’s workforce needs.
Stanislaus State was charged with the following goals:
- Raise the 4 year graduation rate for first-time freshman to 37%
- Raise the 6-year graduation rate for first-time freshman to 65%
- Raise the 2-year graduation rate for transfer students to 45%
- Raise the 4-year graduation rate for transfer students to 78%
- Eliminate the achievement gap for underrepresented minorities
- Eliminate the achievement gap for Pell-eligible students
To achieve these goals, Stanislaus State formed the Graduation Rate Excellence and Assessment Team (GREAT). GREAT expects to positively impact graduation rates and achievement gaps while maintaining student access to an engaging, high-quality education. Lead by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Vice President for Student Affairs, the GREAT Steering Committee is a diverse, cross-divisional think tank that provides direction and leadership to a series of workgroups aimed at operationalizing the 6 systemwide GI 2025 pillars. These areas were identified both through research and practice, as having significant impact on degree completion and student success.
