The 2023 Ethnic Studies Black History Month event at Stanislaus State will take place this year on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in person at the Turlock campus. This event is the fifth annual Black Power Matters program; this year's theme, Radical Reclaiming of Black Joy and Liberation, emphasizes deconstructing white supremacist narratives of blackness.

This year we have a panel and performers in which participants will address the significance of reclaiming black joy and advocating/agitating for liberation. Also, a keynote speech by Dr. Horace Campbell will be centered on black joy as a project of black liberation. We anticipate that the global/ Pan-African and Caribbean experiences of reclamation, self-preservation, self-definition and thriving to be highlighted.

Sponsored by the Department of Ethnic Studies.

By participating in this event, you agree to adhere to the Stan State Campus Event Protocols.
