Dr. Brodie-Crumsey has been teaching at the graduate level for nineteen years. She received her Ph.D. from Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 2008; obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Stan State in 1998; and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. Dr. Brodie-Crumsey chaired Stan State's President's Commission on Diversity & Inclusion for nine years.

 Her research interests focus on advocacy for underrepresented and disenfranchised groups. In 2013, she was appointed by former California Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. to the State Council on Developmental Disabilities and reappointed in 2018 by Governor Gavin Newsom. Dr. Brodie-Crumsey has worked as a county child welfare worker and for neighborhood-based community collaboratives. She has been providing trainings for human service organizations for 25 years.

6/14 – 8/16 Associate Professor:  Field Director – coordinated internship placements for all MSW students; assisted in hiring faculty field liaisons; provided ongoing training for field instructors; approved practicum sites and managed university contracts with community agencies.

8/10 – 6/14 Assistant Professor:  Taught graduate-level research courses – Data Analysis, Research Methods, and Capstone; chaired student theses; served on departmental, college-level, and university-wide committees; advised students; and demonstrated social justice in the community through scholarly activities focused on advocacy of underrepresented groups.

9/08 – 8/10 California State University East Bay, Hayward, CA. Assistant Professor:  Responsibilities included teaching foundation and advanced master of social work courses; serving on department and university committees; developing and maintaining an active research agenda; student advising; ongoing participation in curriculum development.

10/04 – 8/08 California State University East Bay, Hayward, CA. Title IV-E Child Welfare Project Coordinator:  Responsible for student recruitment, screening selection, and tracking in the IV-E program; developed child welfare-focused curriculum; academic advising of students; taught field seminar; oversaw programmatic and fiscal functions of the project; worked with field instructors and agency representatives to enhance student practicum experiences.  

1/04 – 5/04 Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, Washington, DC. Supervised Visitation Program Social Worker:  Provided quality assurance to visitation program staff and management; developed referral criteria, protocols, and budgetary estimates, and designed programmatic evaluation measures.

8/03 – 12/03 Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, VA. Part-time Lecturer – Human Behavior and the Social Environment III: Discussed the systemic nature of racism, sexism, and other social patterns that influence policy and practice; provided a framework for the intersection of class,   poverty, age, education, power, and other elements that contribute to inequalities.

5/01 – 8/03 Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative, Washington, DC. Family Group Conference (FGC) Project Manager:  Designed and implemented quantitative and qualitative research, created survey instruments, collected and analyzed data, conducted FGC training, coordinated and facilitated family meetings, established agency protocols, and supervised staff and master of social work interns. 

8/00 – 5/01 Howard University, Washington, DC. Graduate Assistant: Aided in curriculum development for the graduate course Internationally Displaced Populations, edited and critiqued articles for journal submission, and organized and analyzed research data.

7/99 – 8/00 Community Services Agency, Stanislaus County - Child Protective Services. Modesto, CA. Emergency Response Intake Worker: Triaged crisis situations, conducted acute risk assessments and generated referrals of suspected child abuse and neglect.

6/98 – 7/99 Family Reunification Case Worker: Arranged temporary and permanent placements for children in foster care, developed appropriate family case plans, supervised visits, and presented recommendations to the juvenile court.
