What is Accessibility?
Accessibility is a broad term that at its core is centered around making things work for users who are challenged by disabilities. Together there are many steps that we can take steps to lessen the obstacles. You can navigate by topic and view resources to expand your knowledge base.
To make content accessible is to make content available.
Access for All at Stan State

Access for All at Stan State is a university-wide initiative dedicated to building a more inclusive digital campus by reducing barriers and advancing accessibility for every student, faculty, and staff member.
Rooted in the principles of universal design and guided by ADA Title II requirements, this campaign reflects our collective responsibility to ensure that digital content — from syllabi and Canvas pages to department websites and downloadable documents — is usable by everyone, regardless of ability.
Whether you're creating instructional materials, sharing a video, updating a website, or simply emailing a document, small choices can make a big difference.
What We’re Doing
Through Access for All, Stan State is:
- Launching a centralized resource hub with training guides and how-tos
- Hosting workshops and pop-up events for real-time support
- Offering a remediation request process for faculty materials
- Elevating student and faculty voices through testimonials
- Training student assistants to support accessibility efforts
- Creating a culture of awareness through monthly newsletters
- Recognizing accessibility champions and early adopters
Why It Matters
Inaccessible content can create real obstacles — missed learning opportunities, delayed access to services, and isolation from the digital life of the University. Accessibility is not just a compliance issue; it’s an equity issue.
When we design with everyone in mind, we don’t just follow the law. We foster belonging.
Accessible Technology Initiative
The Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) reflects the California State University's (CSU) ongoing commitment to provide access to information resources and technologies to individuals with disabilities. This commitment is articulated in Executive Order 1111 (EO 1111), the CSU Board of Trustees Policy on Disability Support and Accommodations.
- Vision: To create a culture of access for an inclusive learning and working environment.
- Mission: To help CSU campuses in carrying out EO 926 by developing guidelines, implementation strategies, tools, and resources.
- Principle: To apply universal design, an approach to the design of products and services to be usable by the greatest number of people, including individuals with disabilities.
- Strategy: To stimulate collaboration to affect changes that will ultimately benefit all.
Coded Memorandum AA-2015-22 is an addendum to Coded Memorandum AA-2013-03. These memos guide ATI implementations across the CSU system.
Successful implementation of the ATI at Stanislaus State requires campus-wide participation. The process needs to be inclusive since it requires individual action by hundreds of faculty and staff.
