- Stanislaus State’s Foster Farms Endowed Professor of Business publishes the annual San Joaquin Valley Business Forecast Report, with mid-year updates. The forecasts provide businesses with detailed information about trends in the region relative to those of the state and the nation. Providing these trends help minimize uncertainty surrounding economic indicators and generate market consensus on a regional basis. Businesses, investors, and consumers become equipped with detailed information about the San Joaquin Valley economy that help them make better-informed decisions.
- The Endangered Species Recovery Program (ESRP) was established 25 years ago. This research program covers 14,000 acres of habitat supporting hundreds of animal and plant species. The program partners with government agencies and non-governmental organizations in conservation efforts. In 2015, ESRP and Stanislaus State hosted the 5th World Lagomorph Conference – the first time the conference was held in the United States – bringing together researchers on rabbits, hares, and pikas from around the world.
- Our programs within the Art, Music, and Theatre Departments, collectively comprising our School of the Arts within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, actively participate in the cultural and educational life of our region. With its two art galleries maintained by our Art Department, one on the Turlock campus and one in downtown Turlock, exhibitions open to the public become arenas for examination, discussion, and exploration of the forms, ideas, issues and rich tradition of the visual arts, providing exposure to other cultures and world views. Our Department of Music actively engage our regional communities through outreach and collaboration, hosting festivals, competitions, performances, and an extensive Summer Music at Stanislaus program, providing student musicians grades 6-12 from throughout the region summer-long performance and rehearsal opportunities. And our Theatre Department delivers multiple productions throughout the year, including a children’s production in the winter, and a spring production held in the outdoor amphitheater. Our productions provide the direct experience necessary for our theatre majors, but with open audition calls, our productions provide an opportunity for other students and community members to play roles.
- Stanislaus State received in 2016 the California State University System’s Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practices award for its Top Water Efficiency/Quality Project, a project that contributes to efficient water usage, a key issue facing the Central Valley of California.
- Student-athletes created two videos, Valley Tough and Together We Can, to raise awareness of sexual assault and bystander intervention.
- Stanislaus State’s Center for Public Policy Studies conducts research and public education about important policy issues within the region. It is committed to facilitating regional problem solving that bring together diverse constituencies in the San Joaquin Valley and adjacent foothills to build consensus in addressing public policy issues. Some examples of studies include Economic Base and Creating Opportunity, Unemployment and Welfare-to-Work, Workforce Preparation, Emergency Medical Services, New Firms and Firm Expansion, Housing Crisis, and Mobility and Transportation Needs, among others.
- To support the development and implementation of STEM-related service learning opportunities, Stanislaus State applied for and received an award from the CSU STEM VISTA program (funded by AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America – VISTA program) two times (2016/17 and 2017/18). The CSU STEM VISTA program’s purpose is to advance the CSU’s commitment to inclusivity, equity and student success in STEM, focusing on eliminating race, class, and gender disparities in STEM by fostering cultural and systemic change within its institutions and communities. The award provides a full-time individual for one year to support a variety of university projects related to closing the equity gap in STEM. The VISTA Outreach Coordinator helps coordinate our Science in our Community programs such as Science Day, Science Saturdays, Junior Scientist, Delhi Medical Academy, National Ag Center, and others. Our STEM VISTA Outreach Coordinator developed a STEM Ambassador program, giving Stanislaus State students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and gain leadership skills in conducting STEM activities with K-12 students across 10 school districts in our region. The CSU STEM VISTA program has enabled the development and expansion of a rich complement of community-based STEM initiatives designed to eliminate disparities in the STEM field, and the Office of Service Learning and the College of Science are committed to their partnership in support of these ongoing activities.
- Stanislaus State is participating in the College Corps Program to provide 100 undergraduate Stanislaus State students opportunities to support and learn from organizations and programs on and off-campus in three priority areas: K-12 Education, Climate Action and Food Insecurity.
