The Stan State textbook program, StanBooks, makes getting your course materials more convenient and affordable.

Stan State will launch a pilot of the StanBooks program for the 2026–2027 academic year.

StanBooks Faculty Information

All physical books are provided on a rental basis and must be returned at the end of the term. You’ll receive email reminders with instructions on how to return your materials. The cost of StanBooks is billed to your student account at $20 per credit hour, making it simple to plan and budget. StanBooks is available to all students except those enrolled through Continuing and Professional Education (CaPE).

All students will be automatically enrolled in the program. Once you’ve successfully selected your courses, the University Bookstore will start preparing your order. Students have the option to opt out of the program each semester.

Starting 30 days before the first day of classes, you will receive an order verification link to your Stan State email to verify your order and select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or direct ship-to-home).

Receive Your Textbooks

An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas.

Opt-Out Information

Opt-Out will be active before the start of the fall semester. Stay tuned for announcement emails on the program that will allow you to Opt Out of the program each semester if you decide the program is not right for you. You will be responsible for purchasing your course materials through the bookstore or independently.

StanBooks is a course material delivery model that simplifies the student experience, lowers the cost of materials, and ensures students have access to all required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this innovative program, physical books are conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and access to digital material is directly within Canvas, simply priced at $120 for those students enrolled in 6 or less units and $240 for those students enrolled in 7 or more units. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return rented physical course materials to the bookstore.

The program provides all required textbooks, eTextbooks, lab manuals, and access codes.

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused including but not limited to:

  • Lab Manuals (carbon/carbonless)
  • CoursePacks
  • Dissection Kits
  • Testing Forms (scantrons/blue books)
  • Music Stave/Notebooks
  • Study Guides (BarCharts)
  • Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and Thesaurus'
  • Nursing Scrubs
  • Nursing/Medical equipment
  • Art Supplies (pens, pencils, paint, canvas, brushes, clay, photo supplies, metal/etching, etc.)
  • Molecular Model Kits

All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the StanBooks program.

Students will receive email notifications from the bookstore reminding them to verify their order and choose their fulfillment preference. If the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

Yes, if the student does not opt-out, physical materials will be held at the bookstore, digital materials will be accessed through Canvas and the student account will be charged.

If course materials have been picked up or delivered for the dropped class, those materials should be returned to the bookstore within 48 hours. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required course materials so that you have what you need.

Payment FAQs

If you receive Financial Aid and you do not opt-out before disbursement, the StanBooks charge will be added to your account before disbursement, and you will receive the remainder of your Financial Aid. If the amount of the StanBooks charge changes before Census Day your account will be charged or credited, whichever is appropriate

If you do not receive Financial Aid, the StanBooks charge will be added or subtracted to your account daily until Census Day.

If you opt-out by Census Day, you are under no financial obligation to pay for the program.

If you receive financial aid and the StanBooks charge was previously withheld from you, the funds will be released to you as soon as the next disbursement period (typically within 1-2 weeks).

If you do not receive financial aid and remain opted-out through Census Day, the charge will simply not show up on the student account.

For the 2026-2027 Pilot Program, the StanBooks program will cost $120 plus tax for those students enrolled in 6 or less units and $240 plus tax for those students enrolled in 7 or more units.

Materials FAQs

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of final exams for the semester. Students will receive reminders ahead of the rental deadline to their email address.

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase any rental textbooks at a reduced rate during the semester.

Buyout price is typically the used book price (at least a 25% discount) but could be cheaper if the book is an older edition.

Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

All students, regardless of opting-out, will have access to course textbooks as an eBook linked through Canvas by the first day of class.

  • Students who do not opt-out will have access through the end of term.
  • Students who add courses should receive access to their new textbooks within a day or two.
  • Students who opt-out will lose access to the eBooks on Census Day.

Course material formats are determined by your instructor and will be provided in either print or digital format through the StanBooks program. When available, alternative formats (such as print copies for certain digitally delivered materials) may be purchased separately through the campus bookstore or bookstore website.  Discounted print options may be offered for certain eBooks.  Most interactive courseware materials are digital-only and do not offer a print option. Students with accessibility needs should contact Disability Resource Services to request materials in an approved alternative format.

Yes, there is a low-cost print option available for most eBooks and nominal pricing varies.
