Stanislaus State undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit public policy research proposals for the second annual “Mayor’s Award.”
Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth established the competition last year to recognize and reward students who identify and conduct research on local public policy issues. The specific details of the research and the focus of the project are open-ended. Students are encouraged to develop their projects individually or collaboratively.
Winning proposals will be publicized and granted funding to support the implementation of the research. Evaluation of the proposals will be based on the research question’s significance, quality, creativity and effectiveness in motivating community interest.
Last year’s winner Josephine Hazelton was awarded $3,000 to support research for her project “Catching the Bus: Public Transportation in Turlock.” The project sought to improve access to municipal bus service for the community.
Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 7. Submission materials or questions should be addressed to Dave Colnic in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Stanislaus State. Proposals may be submitted by email to dcolnic@csustan.edu.
