About the Data Center

California State University, Stanislaus online data center houses California's real estate related indicators such as building permits and valuations. The online data center serves as a free online resource to conduct research on real estate and other relevant topics. The funding comes from the Foster Farms and Northern California Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. The portal is updated every quarter by the business forecasting team under the leadership of Dr. Gökçe Soydemir who oversees the publication of the bi-annual San Joaquin Valley Business Forecast Report.

The horizontal axis represents years and the vertical axis represents building permits ranging from 0 to about 3,000. Permit activity is high in the early years, fluctuating between 2,000 and 2,600 from 2004 to 2006, then declines sharply during the 2007–2009 housing downturn, falling to around 300–500 permits. From 2010 to about 2013, permits remain relatively low with modest fluctuations. After 2014, permit activity gradually increases, generally ranging between 500 and 900 through the late 2010s. From 2020 onward, permits trend higher with greater volatility, reaching several spikes near 1,200–1,300, and ending around 900–1,100 by 2023–2024, indicating partial recovery compared to the early-2000s peak..
