Originally from California’s Central Valley, Carin is an Associate Professor of Acting and Directing at Stanislaus State in Turlock, CA. She currently teaches all levels of Acting, Directing, Script Analysis and Senior Seminar and directs in the Theatre Department’s production program.

Carin was previously a Professor of Theatre Arts at Merced College, where she was full-time faculty in Theatre program, including directing 3-4 productions each year. She also trained student actors in the Standardized Patient program which runs clinical rotations for Merced College’s RN program. Other previous positions include lecturer appointments at UC Merced and Modesto Junior College.

She has a BA in Drama from CSU Stanislaus and received graduate Acting training from the Theatre School at DePaul University, where she studied Grotowski and the Linklater vocal method. Overseas, she studied at Richmond College in London, focusing on Shakespeare and the West End Musical. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, with a concentration in Performance and Directing, from Humboldt State University.

Carin has worked in theatre for over 30 years: as a director, an actor, an Intimacy Choreographer and Dramaturg. Some favorite gigs include the London International Festival of Theatre, where she worked in production and marketing for international directors such as Deborah Warner as well as South Africa’s Market Theatre, and a stint at Portland Stage Company, where she worked as an assistant director and assistant dramaturg.

In addition to her creative work in higher education, Carin has directed and performed locally at Sierra Repertory Theatre, where she directed original plays for children’s theatre in local elementary and high schools as well as on the Fallon House Stage in Columbia State Park. She has also acted and directed for Prospect Theater Project, Shakespeare in Yosemite, Playhouse Merced, Phoenix Creative Collective and Merced Shakespearefest. Some of her favorite directing projects include The Great Comet, Ride the Cyclone, The Weir, American Idiot, and A Lie of the Mind, and world premieres of Nick Zagone’s The White Gloriosa, and Jeanette Farr’s Hedda on Fire.

Current artistic interests include (always) the works of Shakespeare, Theatre for Social Change, and Theatre’s place and function in the Climate Crisis.
