Marcy R. Chvasta (Ph.D., Southern Illinois University, Carbondale) regularly teaches courses focused on Media Studies and Communication Technology. With specializations in live and mediated performance, her courses focus on the processes, products, and analysis of aesthetic communication. She has an extensive record in university governance and service, including serving as Speaker of the Academic Senate, Chair of the University Educational Policies Committee, Co-Chair of the CAHSS Curriculum Committee, and Co-Chair of the Department of Communication Studies. While her scholarly endeavors span a range of topics and are informed by interdisciplinary perspectives, they reflect a sustained interest in the disruption of complacency and expectations, whether occurring in everyday contexts, on stage, or on the screen. She has presented and published scholarship on television, film, music, new media, pedagogy, and performance with works appearing in peer-reviewed journals, anthologies, textbooks, and online (in textual, video, and audio formats). She is co-founder of Liminalities: A Journal of Performance Studies, the premier/e online journal of performance studies endorsed by the National Communication Association.
