Isabel Bon-Zamorano

As a first-generation college student, Isabel Bon-Zamorano said choosing to attend Stan State was the best decision she ever made, and it quickly turned into her home away from home. She toured the campus during her sophomore year of high school and knew this was where she belonged.

“It felt right when making my decision,” Bon-Zamorano said. “I love the campus, the people and the community it stands for and serves. I was a very quiet, shy, timid and scared person coming into college but now I am leaving here a new person.”

While studying for her business degree, Bon-Zamorano also worked as an audio video/information technology (AV/IT) technician at the University Student Center for two years. During her time there, she demonstrated significant professional growth.

“Initially reserved and hesitant to make mistakes, Isabel has since evolved into a confident leader who eagerly embraces challenges,” said Ricardo Ramirez, Student Center building operations supervisor. “She consistently goes above and beyond, offering assistance not only with AV/IT matters but also with any other concerns students, faculty, or community members may have.”

Bon-Zamorano said the most powerful thing she gained was the mindset that everyone can achieve great things if you put in the work and that it is okay to want change.

“I have learned that I am capable of taking 18 units, working a part-time job, being a daughter, a friend and a colleague, and I can still accomplish my goals and dreams,” she said. “All you need is the right people around you and the desire to accomplish your goals.”

Ramirez said beyond her exceptional work performance, Bon-Zamorano has also excelled academically earning induction into Psi Chi honor society and a Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship in 2023 for her outstanding academic achievement.

Once she graduates, she plans to open her own business and to give back to the community through her entrepreneurial endeavors. With a Stan State degree, she said she is certain any dream is achievable.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had the dream of building a company and for it to make a difference. I am certain that this dream is attainable because of the work I have put into my education as well as doing this for my family and my future and for all the great things to happen.”

What memories stand out most from your time at Stanislaus State?

“I met so many great people and helped at many different events by working at the Student Center. The first time that I stepped foot onto this campus, I saw a future and I envisioned myself here, and I know little me would be so proud of the person that I have become. I will forever be thankful for everything that Stan State has brought into my life.”

Which faculty or staff member had the greatest impact on you, and why?

“My supervisor, Ricardo Ramirez, had a great impact on my growth and knowledge of technology. Ricardo believed in me when I did not. I doubted myself a lot when I first started in August 2022, and he always knew I could troubleshoot, communicate and at times even build things.”

What advice would you give to current and future students?

“Some advice that I would give to current and future Warriors, is to get involved. It might be simply joining a club or getting a job on campus, but it opens doors to so many opportunities to grow and meet amazing people. Get involved, make conversation, make connections and simply enjoy being here.”
