The experience of regularly reaching heterogeneous groups of students constantly renews my instructional curiosity and increases my range and skills as an educator. I regard the learning experience along the lines of what Paulo Freire, the Brazilian philosopher, once described as reading the world preceding the reading of the word world" (Freire, 1989). From his perspective, critical thinking widens the life experience of those who seek education by opening the possibility to read beyond the immediate decoding of messages. Promoting classroom experiences that engage students in the learning of language and culture increases my own sense of responsibility and expands my perception of their strengths as well as of the aspects where there is room for improvement; at the same time, it helps students to become aware of their own responsibilities and opportunities to expand their limits. Learning a language has to be understood as a preparation for an even more important transcultural competency that will enable them to function in different cultural settings.

Establishing a safe and welcoming environment is crucial from the beginning, as well as dynamic activities to promote interaction to enhance peer collaboration and communication proficiency in the target language. As a consequence, students experience both a sense of autonomy and an improvement of their social skills, which encourage them to advance and risk another step towards increasing knowledge. I have always enjoyed using activities involving cultural aspects of a language in combination with technology tools because they amplify and add greater diversity to the students' learning experience Such activities generate new ways of reading and expanding not only linguistic but also cultural and social perceptions.
