Data Management Steering Committee

High-quality data supports sound decision-making across the University. At Stanislaus State, data management is organized to help ensure institutional data is secure, reliable, accessible and useful for campus stakeholders. This work brings together experts from across divisions to improve data quality, support responsible data use and create clear processes for data-related issues and requests.

Mission

At Stanislaus State, data management is a shared effort focused on secure, reliable and accessible data. This work supports strategic initiatives, informed decision-making, student success and institutional effectiveness through coordinated action, thoughtful investigation and campus dialogue.

Scope

The committee’s work covers institutional data used across university business units. This includes data in print, electronic, audiovisual, backup and archived formats. Examples include:

  • Metrics
  • Logs
  • Demographic information
  • Protected health information
  • Student financial and identity information
  • Performance and assessment data
  • Records tied to professional, curricular and co-curricular activity.

Research and creative activity data collected by campus stakeholders fall outside this scope.

Committee Responsibilities

  • Identify data coordinators for program areas
  • Assign responsibilities to data coordinators
  • Form data workgroups
  • Prioritize data issues and requests
  • Refer issues to the appropriate workgroup
  • Recommend structures, practices and procedures
  • Serve as a liaison between workgroups and campus leadership

Leadership and Membership

The committee is co-chaired by Dai Li, Senior Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics, and Ron Robinette, Interim AVP for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. Membership includes representatives from academic and administrative areas across the university and is reviewed annually to maintain alignment with committee goals and needed expertise.
