The California State University Office of the Chancellor has awarded Stanislaus State $30,000 for use in the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty.

The grant, written by Jason Myers, associate vice president for faculty affairs, Shradha Tibrewal, director of the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (FCETL) and the President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion (PCDI), will go toward two programs.

A campuswide forum on faculty diversity and the recruitment and retention of faculty of color is planned for the fall. Originally proposed as an in-person event, it will instead be delivered in a virtual/remote format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In spring 2021, a team of faculty researchers led by John Garcia and Kelvin Jasek-Rysdahl will engage in a participatory action research study that will result in recommendations for the campus regarding the recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty.

“Over the past few years, Stan State has made significant progress in improving the diversity of our faculty,” Myers said. “We hope that these programs will help us to continue that important work, building a University community in which students, faculty and staff all feel welcome and supported.”

CSU Systemwide Human Resources makes the grants available, noting in the announcement of the awards that they are “a reminder that our faculty are highly valued for their many contributions, and their retention remains a top priority.”
