Description
This year-long FLC is designed for early and intermediate-level online/hybrid instructors who have a desire to advance their knowledge of the Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) rubric, universal design for learning (UDL), and diversity, equity, inclusion, and sense of belonging (DEIB) in online/hybrid courses. Participants will design or remodel an online/hybrid course to align with course learning outcomes and DEIB commitments; expand understanding and implementation of active learning strategies in online courses; learn how to incorporate tech tools and work with instructional designers to support student learning and community; and engage in an informal course review utilizing the QLT rubric. The FLC will meet synchronously, online for a total of 10 sessions (five in the Fall, five in the Spring).
Faculty who successfully complete the FLC will be able to:
- Identify and implement active learning pedagogies for online learning.
- Design a course that is accessible and utilizes Universal Design for Learning.
- Intentionally incorporate DEIB strategies into course design and facilitation.
- Identify tech tools that will support student learning and engagement.
- Design a course that meets the core elements of the QLT rubric.
Participants in this FLC must:
- Be current Stan State faculty - any rank or discipline - with a reasonable expectation to be teaching at Stan State throughout 2023-2024.
- Be available to attend and actively engage in at least 80% of the synchronous online meetings.
- Be able to engage in the design or redesign of an online or hybrid course (draft ready for informal review by early Spring semester).
FLC Application & Meeting Schedule
- Those interested in joining the FLC must complete the application before September 6, 2023.
- On the application, you will list available times to attend the synchronous online FLC meetings.
- The meeting schedule will be identified based on the ability to accommodate as many applicants as possible. We anticipate the first meeting to be held in mid/late September.
- There are 12 spaces in the FLC. Should more than 12 faculty apply to participate, priority will go to those who are able to meet at a common time, who have a reasonable expectation to teach an online or hybrid course within the next year, and who have not previously completed the FLC.
- Participants must be Stanislaus State faculty members (any rank, FT, or PT) from any discipline, with an expectation to teach at Stan State throughout 2023-2024.
Faculty Compensation: Those who successfully complete the FLC can receive a $750 professional development stipend. Successful completion includes (a) attending 80% of synchronous FLC sessions; meeting expectations in an informal QLT review; and (c) submitting one exemplar to the Quality Assurance Resource Repository (QuARRy). If you've already completed a QLT FLC, you can attend again, but won't receive a stipend.
