Aria Zapata completed a BA in Communications and Film Studies at the University of the Pacific and an MFA degree in Social Documentation at UC Santa Cruz. Her thesis film "Con o Sin Papeles" is a documentary that raises public awareness about the injustices migrant workers face in the Central Valley. The documentary highlights the stories of young and motivated migrant workers who share sentiments of feeling unwelcome but are determined to overcome their "outsider" status. The film has been screened in several film festivals, including the Margaret Mead Film Festival in New York. Zapata is currently pursuing her second Masters in Counseling/Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy at the University of Phoenix. Zapata is committed to using film to contribute to social change by allowing survivors of trauma to heal through storytelling. Zapata was born and raised in Stockton, California, and is of first-generation college background.
