  • Support the long-term institutionalization of successful programs and services
  • Develop shared approaches to assessment and accountability

Our work is student-centered, asset-based, culturally responsive, collaborative, data-informed and focused on sustainable institutional change.

What Is a Hispanic-Serving Institution?

A Hispanic-Serving Institution is a federally designated college or university that meets specific enrollment and financial eligibility requirements. HSI designation recognizes institutions that enroll a significant percentage of Hispanic undergraduate students and serve a large population of students with financial need.

Being an HSI is more than meeting an enrollment threshold. It also involves examining how institutional policies, practices, learning environments and support systems contribute to equitable outcomes for Latinx students.

An HSI is an institution that:

  • Enrolls at least 25% Hispanic undergraduate students, as defined by federal eligibility requirements
  • Works to produce equitable outcomes for Latinx students
  • Develops an educationally affirming and culturally responsive campus culture
  • Creates a welcoming environment where students can thrive

Stan State has been designated as an HSI since 1992.
