Community-Engaged Learning Office
The Office of Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) at Stan State was established in 2000 as the Office of Service Learning. This office advances experiential education by connecting academic learning with meaningful community engagement. Community-Engaged Learning is the large umbrella of course-connected experiential learning, which includes course-related community service, service learning, and academic internships.
What is Service-Learning?
At the core of service learning is the principle that community service can be connected to classroom learning in such a way that service is more informed by theoretical and conceptual understanding and learning is more informed by the realities of the world.

What is an Academic Internship?
An academic internship is a credit-bearing, career-related work experience of limited duration in which an individual takes on responsible roles outside of the traditional university environment. Academic internships may take place in a nonprofit organization, government office, or for-profit business. Depending on the employer, some internships are paid.
