Susan Kessler: Installation

January 22 – February 21, 2002

Working with Stanislaus State students during winter semester, international installation artist Susanne Kessler created a mixed media sculptural installation that encouraged viewers to question stability. As Kessler says, “Circling is my method of work. Everything has to stay in motion, mutable, uncertain, suspended. I like to cause a sensation of fragility more than one of stability, of vibration as the smallest motion of life.”

Born in Wuppertal, Germany, Kessler and has traveled widely, receiving her MFA from the Art College of Berlin and scholarships to schools in London and Paris. Solo shows at major European museums include: Von der Heydt Museum, Wuppertal, Stadtmuseum, Bayreuth, and the Landesmuseum in Germany.
