Caroline Mercier PhD
Costume and Fashion Design

Dr. Caroline Mercier has taught, designed and exhibited her work for more than 15 years. She originally started in fashion design and after opening her own boutique and creating lines, moved on to performance art. As a costume designer, she is the recipient of a Les Masques award, the Quebecois equivalent to the Tony. She has collaborated for shows and directors such as Les Miserables in New York, Le Cirque du Soleil, Robert Lepage, Douglas Campbell and McGill Opera. She was just a guest artist at CSULA in Los Angeles this spring. As a make-up artist, she has worked on many sets in Hollywood and Las Vegas. She worked as a makeup artist for Cirque du Soleil show at the Kodak theatre in LA, and competed several times in the World Bodypainting Competition in Austria and Paintopia in England.

She spent 5 years in the British Isles, studying and creating new work. Her PhD Fine Arts, specialized in Performance and textile Art is the first one of its kind in the Western World. She has been invited as a guest artist in residence in Art Centers in England, Ireland, France and Thailand where she had a silk and painting exhibit in Bangkok. She was asked to publish work on her last solo textile exhibit in Paris at the Talmart Gallery. She studied masks, puppets and weaving in Bali with Alit Bagus, and in Florence Italy, sketching and painting the Renaissance, as well as creating more headpieces and masks at a 2 months residency at Les Tarabates Theatre in France. 

As an educator, she was granted early tenure at Stanislaus State for her high commitment to students and the community. She is now a regular guest professor at BFSU in Beijing, China. She is certified by Trendimi Fashion and Makeup School, an active member of the Makeup Directory, USITT, APASQ, the Fashion Network, as well as sat on the Governing Board of KC ACTF, an organization sponsored by the Kennedy Center. She is the founder of CCA an innovative company promoting creativity as a business solution, and chief consultant for IPExperts while helping on a legal case for Victoria Secret in NY.
