Dr. Paul L. Gardley, Jr. is a scholar-practitioner, educational leader, and social justice advocate dedicated to advancing student success, educational equity, and transformative change in higher education. A native of Oakland, California, Dr. Gardley is a proud first-generation college graduate and alumnus of California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State).
With more than two decades of experience in education, Dr. Gardley has built a distinguished career supporting students, developing programs, and addressing systemic barriers that affect access and achievement. Prior to joining Stan State, he served for over a decade at California State University, East Bay, where he discovered his passion for student development and educational leadership. During his tenure at CSU East Bay, he held roles as an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Faculty member while earning a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership and Technology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gardley has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to scholarship, service, and advocacy. He is particularly dedicated to supporting first-generation, low-income, and historically underserved student populations. As a higher education professional, he has helped students navigate academic challenges, overcome barriers to degree completion, and access critical campus resources. His involvement in campus leadership and committee work has focused on developing innovative solutions that promote student success, inclusion, and institutional effectiveness.
Driven by a commitment to transformative leadership, Dr. Gardley returned to his alma mater, Stan State, where he continues to serve students through advising, mentorship, and advocacy. His work emphasizes creating equitable educational opportunities and fostering environments where all students can thrive and develop a strong sense of belonging.
Dr. Gardley earned his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Stan State. His research examines issues of educational inequity, student belonging, and the experiences of historically marginalized populations in higher education. Through his scholarship and professional practice, he seeks to inform policies and practices that improve student outcomes and promote educational justice.
As an educator, advisor, and mentor, Dr. Gardley is committed to empowering students to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. He believes that higher education has the power to transform lives and is passionate about inspiring the next generation of scholars, leaders, and changemakers.
