Assoc. Professor Eric Broadwater is the Department of Theatre's resident Scenic Designer, and is a working theatre artist in the community and beyond.
Professor Broadwater has been painting and designing professionally for more than 15 years in theatre, television and film, and has worked all over the country for local and regional theaters, such as: Sacramento Theatre Co., Capital Stage Co., Barrington Stage Co., Palo Alto Children’s Theatre, Redtwist Theatre Co. (Chicago), The Blank Theatre (Los Angeles), and the Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
He earned his BFA in Scenic Design from Southern Oregon University and his MFA in Scenic Design from Penn State. Since his arrival at Stanislaus State, in addition to his numerous designs for the Department of Theatre, he has also been commissioned to work for local performing arts organizations like Townsend Opera Players in Modesto. In 2015, along with Stanislaus State Adjunct Faculty member Stefani Tsai, he co-founded the LightBox Theatre Co. A certified Non-Profit theatre company here in Turlock that creates professional theatre experiences for young audiences in our region.
