Eric Broadwater is the Professor of Scene Design in the Theatre Department where he mentors students in the areas of Scenic Design, Projections Design, Scenic Painting, and Properties, and has designed and painted over 50 departmental productions. He holds degrees from the Pennsylvania State University (MFA) and Southern Oregon University (BFA) where he interned in the design studios at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) under the supervision of Richard Hay and William Bloodgood and was co-recipient of the OSF Angus Bowmer Award in 2001.

Professor Broadwater is a professional theatre artist, primarily working in local and reginal theaters in Norther California including; Capital Stage Co., B St. Theatre at The Sophia, Sacramento Theater Co., Celebration Arts, Palo Alto Children’s Theatre, 6th St. Theater, and Ray of Light. His work has also been seen around the “store front” theatre scene in Chicago including works at the Den Theater, Redtwist Theater, and Fox Valley Rep. His designs are regularly nominated in BroadwayWorld.com regional nominations including a Design of the Decade nomination for Bad Jews at Capital Stage in BroadwayWorld.com/Sacramento (2020), and won Best Design of a Musical for Kinky Boots at Ray of Light Theatre in BroadawayWorld.com/ San Francisco (2024).

Professor Broadwater is also a freelance concept artist providing digital concept art for use in theatre design, environmental/interactive design, and museum design.

In 2015 he co-founded LightBox Theatre Co. in Turlock, Ca. whose mission is to partner with local k-6th grade schools to provide local school kids with the opportunity to tie children’s literature to the visual and performing arts.
