Warrior Day, a cherished tradition for students looking to take their mind off of fast-approaching finals, returns to campus on Friday, May 8. Rapper E-40 will headline the day’s activities, which include music, dancing, games, a rock-climbing wall and a bar.

An oxygen bar.

No alcohol will be allowed at the event, and anyone who decides to drink beforehand could be in for a sobering experience: Those who are clearly intoxicated will not be allowed in, and if they are unable to care for themselves because they are drunk, they will be arrested and taken to jail — an experience that includes booking and a mug shot.

“Warrior Day ought to be a day of celebration, not a day spent behind bars” said University Police Chief Andy Roy. “Unfortunately, some people look at it as an opportunity to binge drink, which is really disappointing because they can ruin things for themselves and those around them.”

Unlike previous Warrior Days, University Police will not release seriously impaired people to friends.

“There is too much that can go horribly wrong,” Roy said. “They can later be assaulted, drive a vehicle and cause an accident, or even die from alcohol poisoning. The University has an obligation to keep our community safe. As a father of three girls, I never want to look another parent in the eye and explain why their child was assaulted or killed because the UPD released them instead of having them sober up.”
